Seems the biggest threat to California wildlife isn’t logging, dam-building or hunting — it’s urban sprawl. The NATIONAL WILDLIFE FEDERATION has just released a study showing that residential and commercial construction is the biggest threat to two-thirds of the animals and plants on the state’s official list of threatened or endangered species.
“This research underscores that wildlife imperilment is not just something that’s happening ‘out there,’ far removed from metropolitan areas, but is increasingly occurring ‘right here,’ where the majority of people live and work,” said Mark Van Putten, the NWF’s president.
