We’re trying something new at Mother Jones: We want to build a team of reporters dedicated to tracking and exposing the forces behind disinformation ahead of the midterm elections. And we hope you can be part of it.

As we detail in this piece, research consistently indicates that disinformation, while sometimes daunting, can actually be contained—and even dried up at its source. But to do that, we need to first find it and expose where it’s coming from. So we’re turning to our community of readers to let us know what questions or tips you have about disinformation you encounter in the wild. We hope you’ll get involved by:

Signing up as a disinformation lookout. If you’re interested in helping us spot disinformation before it spreads widely, we’d love your help. Give us your information below, and let us know where you live. We’ll turn to you for help with watching social-media feeds or political advertising in your state.

Helping shape our disinformation coverage. Is there something you’d like us to look into about how disinformation works and who’s behind it? Tell us! (Prefer a secure channel? Our Signal and Protonmail accounts are listed on this page.

We may share your response with our staff. We respect your privacy and your email address will not be published. By providing your email, you agree to let us contact you about your response.

ONE MORE QUICK THING:

Or at least we hope. It’s fall fundraising time, and we’re trying to raise $250,000 to help fund Mother Jones’ journalism during a shorter than normal three-week push.

If you’re reading this, a fundraising pitch at the bottom of an article, you must find our team’s reporting valuable and we hope you’ll consider supporting it with a donation of any amount right now if you can.

It’s really that simple. But if you’d like to read a bit more, our membership lead, Brian Hiatt, has a post for you highlighting some of our newsroom's impressive, impactful work of late—including two big investigations in just one day and covering voting rights the way it needs to be done—that we hope you'll agree is worth supporting.
